TREE SHEARS AND GRAPPLE SAWS

An increase in mechanised means for tree cutting and extraction, such as tree shears and grapple saws, is being seen in Australia.

This equipment, which is used primarily for forestry, is now seeing more application in urban areas. While many safe-use considerations are the same between forestry and urban application, the danger of chain shot in urban areas is of specific concern. 

The UK Forestry Industry Safety Accord (FISA) have released this safety alert, with an intention to later release a safety guide. Arb Aus will also assess the need to develop a more detailed and Australian-specific safety guide.
